Trakai lies just 28 kilometers from Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. It is a resort town which can be easily accessed by train or by bus, taking 30 to 45 minutes and costing only about €2.

There are several trains leaving daily from Vilnius Railway Station to Trakai. You can check the schedule on the website traukiniobilietas.lt.

The buses to Trakai leave from Vilnius Bus Station which is located just next to the Railway Station. There are plenty of buses leaving every hour. For a detailed schedule, check the website autobusubilietai.lt.

There is no need to buy train or bus tickets in advance, it can be done on the spot right before the trip.

Get around

Trakai is a town small enough for everything to be reached on foot. However, it should be noted that both Bus and Railway Stations in Trakai are located about 2.5 km away from the Old Town, and the town buses are running only during the summertime.

Eat

While in town, you should definitely try kybyns, a traditional dish of Trakai. We recommend visiting Senoji kibininė (Karaimų g. 65; no website in English), the oldest working restaurant dedicated to this famous dish. You could also consider Kybynlar (traditional Karaite cuisine) or Apvalaus stalo klubas (fine dining).
